Chetzemoka's Curse is an all DV feature film shot in only four days in Port Townsend, WA. It was edited into its final form in only five days using The Green Room Studio’s AVID edit suite in Berkeley, CA.
The film is the result of the collaboration of six principal people: Maya Berthoud, Morgan Schmidt-Feng, Dave Nold, Lawrence Pado, Rich Schmidt, and Chris Tow (Editor). It was produced under Rick Schmidt’s production company - FW Productions.
The collaborators strove to fully follow the spirit and letter of the rules set forth in Dogme95. Examples of the rules are: All shooting must be done on location, no special lighting must be used, no props can be brought in, and the camera must be hand held. Music cannot be produced apart from the images, i.e. no music unless it is played simultaneously with the shoot.
While many of these rules can be seen only as constraining, following them forced innovative ways of creating our work. In addition, not being forced to set up lighting or lug around a tripod allowed for a huge increase in shooting productivity.
We believe we were successful at creating both an entertaining and thoughtful work. We hope you will too.
